Sing the praises of the Lord,
you his faithful people;
praise his holy name.Psalm 30:4
A prayer to constantly praise and thank God
Mighty God, I admit that when things go wrong in my life I am quick to ask for help. But when my life is running along smoothly or even when a prayer is answered Iโm equally quick to forget to thank you. Each and every morning when I rise, I commit to thanking you for what you will send my way that day โ even the โnot-so-good.โ Because even in those times I know I have the opportunity to grow in my faith. And throughout my day I will remember to thank you even for the little gifts you send my way. LORD, at the end of my day Iโm frequently so tired. But you are never tired of hearing my praise for you. I will, before my eyes close, remember the ways you revealed yourself to me that day. Whether you acted as my counselor, comforter, King, creator, or protector, I will praise you. In your sonโs name I pray, Amen.
In the late Spring of 2020, I was led to learn more about how to pray. Using what The Navigators call, โThe Prayer Hand,โ I learned the five parts to highly effective prayer. Thatโs not to say we canโt or shouldnโt pray short, on-the-go prayers throughout the day, but the Prayer Hand revealed to me what was missing from my prayer life โ praise.
Praise is different than โthanksgivingโ I learned. When we praise someone, such as our children or a friend we compliment them for what they themselves have done, created or just are such as their patience or sense of humor. When we thank them it usually involves something to do with our relationship. We thank people for helping us or making things easier in a situation. The same is true for our praise and thankfulness toward God.
Enter his gates with thanksgiving
and his courts with praise;
give thanks to him and praise
his name.Psalm 100:4
This concept was so foreign and awkward for me — it seemed that โpraiseโ was so flowery and silly โ that I dove headfirst into figuring out how to โdoโ it. And so, I created my 30 Days of Praise blog series. I took all the different characteristics of God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit and set about praising them for well, just being the amazing Triune God.
And although that 30 days was pretty awesome, I still struggle with daily praising Him. And that has revealed something else about me. I have a hard time praising others (and myself to be honest). Iโm great at thanking people when they help me out. But just unabashedly praising people? I realized that effort and awareness requires me to look outside myself and my own โthings I gotta do right nowโ world. I need to pay attention to the human beings around me. I mean really pay attention. To the salesclerk, the deli guy, the mailman, my neighbor, that person I see walking their dog every single day, my husband, my children, my friends โ I need to look at them and see them and praise them. Why? Because they too are Godโs creation. And I can praise God for putting them in this world.
Praising God means honoring Him for the rain, the sunrise, the puffy clouds, the air we breathe, the Son He sent, the joy He provides, the Word we read, the awesomeness of the universe. We praise Him from whom all blessings flow! I love the doxology I used to sing in a previous church and it takes on full meaning to me now:
Praise God from whom all
blessings flow, Praise Him
all creatures here below,
Praise Him above ye heavenly
host, Praise Father, Son and
Holy Ghost, Amen
I will keep working on my path to praising God each and every day.ย ย I want to be His thankful daughter.ย ย I seek to find ever more reasons to praise Him.ย ย And in doing so my eyes are moved off me and onto Him.
If you want this too, add the prayer to your daily prayer list and watch and see how God works in your life!
Out of the same mouth come
praise and cursing. My brothers
and sisters, this should not be.James 3:10
A prayer to avoid using coarse language
Holy Father, it has become so easy for me to use your name in un-holy ways. There was once a time that when angered or frustrated I would just say some silly old saying. But as I drew closer to the ways of the world my language followed. I want to be closer to you instead, LORD. I want to speak like your son, Jesus. I know that anger, impatience, laziness, and bitterness are all roots of my use of foul language. Help me, Holy Spirit, to cut out those roots so that out of my mouth comes praise, prayer, forgiveness and grace. I will use my mouth, with your guidance, for these rather than obscenity and coarseness. Amen
We all remember that moment well. I was driving the middle school carpool that morning. A car full of young, impressionable minds. Just before I got to a busy intersection a car swerved over from another lane in front of me, causing me to hit my brakes. And just as our basic driving skills become automated, my middle finger and mouth began its ugly automatic work. The car went silent. I was immediately convicted of my sin by five sets of enlarged eyes on me.
Youโd think that instances like that wouldโve got me to stop cursing in anger but it hasnโt. In fact, knowing about three weeks ago that eventually Iโd be writing this post I started more aggressively working on this problem. And yet, just the other day I think I managed to use just about every curse word available when talking to my husband about politics.
Nor should there be obscenity,
foolish talk or coarse joking,
which are out of place, but
rather thanksgiving.Ephesians 5:4
Have you ever watched a movie where it seemed the director purposely had every actor place a curse word in every sentence the actors spoke? I have. And Iโve finally had to stop watching. I understand when our anger rises up that we again allow our mouths to control our world. But the gratuitous use of cursing is not something I understand. Everything, to some people, is โfโing (fill in the blank).โ Itโs become just another adjective. And yet, it isnโt.
According to one researcher, we swear on average from 0.3% to 0.7% of the time โ a tiny but significant percentage of our overall speech. Given the fact that the average woman speaks about 25,000 words a day that adds up to around 1,750 swear words per day. Thatโs a lot of sinful speaking.
When I worked in our local high schools, I would see the prevalence of swearing amongst our teenagers. Each year it seemed to get worse and worse. When I would admonish a student they would say, โoops, it was just an accident.โ However, we all know that well-practiced behaviors become simply rote acts.
We are told throughout the Bible and especially the New Testament that we, as believers in God and then Jesus, are to be set apart from this world.
Let us behave decently,
as in the daytime, not
in carousing and drunkenness,
not in sexual immorality and
debauchery, not in dissension
and jealousy. Rather, clothe
yourselves with the Lord
Jesus Christ, and do not
think about how to gratify
the desires of the flesh.Romans 13:13-14
This verse makes it clear, whether in daytime, nighttime, with Christian friends or non, in our work environment, our home, or alone in our car, we are to clothe ourselves with Jesus. The worst I have ever read come out of Jesusโ mouth was to call the Pharisees โvipers.โ
In the United States, during the 19th century, there was a craze to come up with “mild oaths” or pseudo-swearwords that replaced profane words with inoffensive ones. They tended to be silly and even poetic. “Jumpin’ Jehoshaphat,” “Holy, Moly,” and “gee willikers!” were just a few. It was a sign of our Christian influence in society. Sadly, we seem to have lost not only that influence but our desire to be that influence.
My BSGsโ (Bible Study Girls) favorite saying is โimperfect progress.โ And thatโs what Iโm in the midst of โ really, arenโt we all? And as I listen to our media, tv shows, music, and more accept that cursing Godโs name as the โnew normalโ I pray for the Holy Spirit to help me be set apart. I want my โnew normalโ to be for the glory of God, not for the fulfillment of my flesh.
If you want this too, add the prayer to your daily prayer list and watch and see how God works in your life!
From the first day of Earth to today, God has been doing amazing things in our lives. And when Jesus preached and performed miracles, the Bible frequently says the people were amazed. Each day we get up to start a new day. Each day we put our feet on the floor, have breakfast, brush our teeth, and then go about our daily routine. We do the laundry, wash the dishes, log in another long day at work. It’s so easy to live in the humdrum of every day. But God is still doing amazing things!
I’ve spent much of my adult life being a pessimist. As I grew closer to Jesus it became almost impossible to continue looking at life, people and circumstances constantly from a negative point of view. God transformed me. And that, my friends, is pretty darn amazing.
Join me and my special guest writer as we explore all the amazing acts of Jesus starting November 1 through 29. My hope is that each day we will help you take these amazing Jesus acts and translate them into your amazing life.

When Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were amazed at his teaching
Last Christmas, my new son-in-law sat reading a large paperback book.ย ย I asked him about it.ย ย He introduced me to โSpurgeon On Prayer & Spiritual Warfare,โ a 575-page book filled with Charles Spurgeonโs sermons on prayer.ย ย There are prayers on why to pray, how to pray, what to pray, and even when to pray.ย ย After skimming over my son-in-lawโs copy, I decided I needed my own copy.ย ย Iโve only scratched the surface of the 54 sermons, but Iโve come to realize two important things about prayer: 1) Do it and 2) Do it earnestly.
The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.
James 5:16
How many of us truly believe in the power of prayer?ย ย Letโs back up a bit.ย ย How many of us Christians truly believe that Jesus is the Way, the Truth and the Light?ย ย Unfortunately, I know quite a few people who say they are Christians but wonโt stand up with assuredness that this statement is true.ย ย We are so wrapped up in the idea of being judgemental โ telling people their way isnโt the right way โ that we are willing to give up this foundation stone.ย ย We want to put the capstone on our faith by calling ourselves โChristiansโ without the foundation.ย ย In doing so, we shove aside all the teachings of Jesus and how to express our faith out of love, rather than judgement.ย ย We also tear down the place Jesus holds in the eternal world.
Letโs say we accept the statement that Jesus is the Way, the Truth and the Light.ย ย We are now miles ahead of the Pharisees.ย ย This was their stumbling block.ย ย So, if we accept this, we need to then look at prayer from that vantage point.ย ย When Jesus is our Way and our Truth then we also accept God as the King of Kings and Lord of Lords.ย ย And throughout scripture we are almost begged by God and Jesus to bring Him our trials, our joys, our sorrows, and our sins.
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.
Philippians 4:6
Notice scripture doesnโt say โwell, only when you feel you need to pray.โย ย It also doesnโt say to just pray when we are sick or worried.ย ย In EVERY situation we are to pray.ย ย Upon waking, eating breakfast, hopping in our car for work (or on our computer), when a friend or colleague starts gossiping, when a friend texts you with bad news, when you look out your window and see a blue sky, when you eat lunch, when you are working on a project, when you head home from work, arrive home safely (or after an accident), when you eat dinner, when you start worrying about things on the nightly news, when you lay your head down to sleep.ย ย EVERY situation.
Is anyone among you in trouble? Let them pray.ย ย Is anyone happy? Let them sing songs of praise.ย ย Is anyone among you sick?ย ย Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them.
James 5:13-14
I have to confess that God has revealed a painful truth to me about my prayer life.ย ย When I am most worried about a situation is when I have the most difficult time praying.ย ย I have a hard time slowing my mind down, focusing on Jesus, and asking Him to take control.ย ย ย Back when I was a softball coach, I couldnโt stand watching a game when I was off the field.ย ย I wanted to yell out directions to the players (I yell at the TV too).ย ย But when I took my seat in the head coachโs spot, I would become calm.ย ย Itโs because I had some control over the situation.ย ย So, when I need to give up my worries itโs like standing outside that fence, letting someone else be in charge. And that is very difficult for me.
We have an agreement, a covenant that God enters into with those who pray to Him and are helped by Him.
Charles Spurgeon
In other words, we must acknowledge that God is trustworthy and has delivered us before and He will do it again.ย ย Our part is then to glorify Him through prayer and praise.ย ย Glorify โ that sounds more than just a passing โthanks, God.โย ย Iโve been guilty of that โ if I even remembered to thank Him.ย ย Which brings me to being earnest.
If we believe that Jesus is the Way and God is the powerful King of Kings, we must honor this exalted position.ย ย Would you walk into the Queen of Englandโs throne room casually and just say, โhey, whatโs up Queenie?ย ย If it were at all possible would you be able to help me find a new job? I get it if you canโt but maybe you can try.โย ย Casual, and not very expecting.ย ย God is God.ย ย The One most High.ย ย ย We should come in reverence and expectation.ย ย He CAN do all.ย ย He has done it all.ย ย We need to plead with him, put our heart into it, and rap our knuckles as hard as possible against heavenโs door.ย ย
How many of us actually have such low expectations of our prayers?ย ย We say them with rote numbness.ย ย My family used to say the exact same prayer at dinner time.ย ย It comes to mean absolutely nothing and is usually expressed with that same nothingness.ย ย My husband and I started praying in earnest this year over our evening meal.ย ย We express thankfulness and joy for good things that happened.ย ย We ask earnestly for healing of friends and family members.ย ย And we ask Him to use us and place opportunities to be His light in this world in front of us.ย ย It not only has helped us be in communion with God but it has also strengthened our marriage.
An earnest pleader comes out of his prayer closet rejoicing like a strong man ready to run his race.
Charles Spurgeon
I love that visual.ย ย After praying all my prayer cards in my โwar roomโ I frequently feel emboldened to take on the world as one of Godโs blessed daughters.ย ย How many of us who have children (or co-workers) and weโve needed them to complete a task?ย ย We mention it half-heartedly. They pretend not to hear us or just roll their eyes.ย ย As a parent and coach, I eventually perfected โThe Look.โย ย Thatโs the look that says โmom is serious about this so itโd better get done.โย ย Thatโs the look we need to have in our prayer life.ย ย Expectation that God will answer our prayers.ย ย It may sound sacrilegious to โexpect Godโ to do something in our life but He himself has said to us over and over to trust Him, to ask Him, to plead with Him.
“Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be thy name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
and forgive us our debts, as
we have also forgiven our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation but
deliver us from the evil one.”
Matthew 6:9-13
Do you see the glorification and exaltation of God in the first sentence?ย ย Then, the trust and reminder that Godโs will is meant to rule the earth.ย ย We then ask him to provide for us.ย ย Really, using the word โgiveโ is like demanding.ย ย Pleading with Him to forgive us.ย ย And giving us hope for the future.ย ย Man, was Jesus so great with words!ย ย How many times have we recited this and not thought about what we are saying?ย ย Next time we speak these words make it in earnest, bring some emotion to it!ย ย Beg Him to forgive you and help you.
We are ordinary people asking extraordinary things from an amazing, loving, faithful, and powerful God.ย Throughout the Bible, people just like us asked for victory over large armies, the rain to fall and the rain to stop, for loved ones to be healed and even raised from the dead, for our never-ending ailments to be taken away, for our life of sin to be cleansed.ย ย And God abided.ย ย ย He healed us.ย ย He saved us.ย ย He made it rain.ย ย He has showered us for centuries with answered prayers.ย
If Jesus could lift a man from the dead, imagine what He can do with our prayers?
We must pray in earnest.ย ย It is a supernatural, powerful tool that Jesus gave us.ย ย Some of us use prayer like we are brushing our teeth โ rote and without remembering all the benefits.ย ย Something we have to do.ย ย Itโs time to take it up daily like a torch against the darkness, a sword against evil, and a golden gift presented to our Lord Most Exalted.
So here we are — Day 30 of 30 Days of Praise! And although my daily prayer praise of the Almighty doesn’t end with today, my challenge to find different ways to write about God’s amazing characteristics is complete. When I started this more than 30 days ago I was on a journey to help me learn a new way of praying. I felt comfortable with thanking God, asking God for help, and asking Him for forgiveness. But praising God seemed so strange and uncomfortable to me. True to His character He placed a challenge on my heart and mind to help me grow.
I heard a great comment about God’s character yesterday. “God never allows us to fail a test, he just gives us the test over and over until we pass.” It goes right along with Charles Stanley’s Life Principle #7:
The dark moments of our life will last only so long as necessary for God to accomplish His purpose in us.
Charles Stanley, 30 Life Principles
God Allows Us to Be Reduced to Brokenness
You see, I didn’t start my journey of learning how to praise God 30 days ago. I started the day God spoke to me in my bedroom a few years ago. While I sat enjoying my little pity party God said, “Enough is enough.” He shook me with the simple statement: “What have you really done?” You see I was whining about being such a “good Christian” and yet my life felt like a mess. He spoke those words loudly again, “Yes, what have you really done?” He had been letting me do things my own way for a long time. But He loves us too much to let us continue down destructive paths for too long. That day started my training. And it was intense. He taught me that the secret to a peace-filled life was a lot simpler than what I imagined. I didn’t need to be “doing” so much. I just needed to obey Him — no matter the consequences, no matter how outlandish the request sounded. 1 John 2:25 says:
But if anyone obeys His word, love for God is truly made complete in them.
1 John 2:25
Not only was I reduced to brokenness but God was right there to put me back together as a much more simple, faithful Christian with one goal: Obey.
God Re-Uses Lessons To Get Us to Listen
Throughout my continuing journey I have experienced many times when the same lesson pops up over and over. It’s when I give in and say, “ok, ok, I get it!” that He finally moves on. From podcasts, to daily devotionals, and songs on the radio to a Bible study, His Word weaves its way seamlessly throughout our lives. On August 1, I started with my devotional, “New Day, New You” by Joyce Meyer. The day’s lesson? “Simple, Believing Prayer” based on Matthew 6:7. “And when you pray, do not heap phrases as the gentiles do, for they think they will be heard for their much speaking.” Good start as I then turn to my “30 Life Principles” Bible study lesson for the day: “Listening to God is essential to walking with God.” In it the question was asked, “What does Jesus say about the use of many words?” Based on, guess….. Matthew 6:7. I saw a message forming here. I then decided to read a bit of my “Spurgeon on Prayer & Spiritual Warfare.” I don’t read it everyday but I felt led to that day. And lo and behold, the topic was approaching God with reverence, joy, submission, confidence and sincerity. Not babbling on with useless words intended to make myself sound “christian-like.” Point taken.
What if through this odd little coincidence, or answered prayer, Heโs sending you–youโฆ out of all of those billions of people–a direct personal message of reassurance? To stop worrying? To keep the faith? That everything will be all right?ย

God Takes Trash and Makes It Into Something Beautiful
Each Sunday we would see him. A man in about his 40s dressed to the 9s. Not just full suits but “zoot” suits. Big shoulder pads, double breasted suits. But what was most impressive was his hair. I dated a guy back in the 80s who played in a 60s throwback band with that same hair — pumped up, rockabilly pompadour. He stood out among the mostly white, upper class 60-80 year olds. It came to pass we ended up in the same membership class. I told him how I enjoyed seeing what cool and interesting outfits he was going to show up in each week. And, I was definitely impressed with his hair. Both being named Chris/Kris we of course, hit it off. When it came time to tell our testimony I realized what a blessing it was that God put me in the same group as Chris. He told us how his family growing up were Christians. But he rebelled. He wanted long hair, hard rock and a free spirited life. One day when he was 15 his father came to him and said, “We are going to Africa to be missionaries. You have two choices, you can cut your hair and come with us or you stay here in California and find your own way.” He chose to keep his hair. He also decided that Los Angeles was the place to become a rock star. He played bass and guitar. He ended up on the streets, homeless. And he turned to drugs which eventually led to heroin. He told us he should’ve died at least 10 times. But God was not done with him. He pulled him from the fire after yet another devastating drug-fueled, car accident. And led him on the path to recovery. He now goes all over the country speaking on the perils of heroin and his faith in God. He jumped in to help mentor middle school and high school kids at our church. He’s one cool cat. Chris was like the trash that rolls along our city streets, finding its way into doorways. Crumpled up and seemingly useless. God transformed him into a true follower of Christ — a thing of beauty. His transformation story gives me hope for my, much smaller problems.
I praise God today for all the work He has done and will do in our lives. He whispers to us. He shouts at us. He shakes us and he nudges us. He will never force us to follow Him. And He will never fully let us go. Click on the photo below to enjoy the song, “Raise a Hallelujah” by Bethel Music — but here’s a hint, play it loud and raise your hands high!! I look forward to having you join me on my next challenge — “His Works Project”– coming soon!
When I was a kid one of my most favorite shows was, โI Dream of Jeannie.โ My friends and I would take turns playing the Barbara Eden character, Jeannie, and the Larry Hagman character, Tony. Major Anthony Nelson (Tony) crash landed his space capsule on a remote beach. He discovered a beautiful bottle and opened it. With a puff of pink smoke out popped a gorgeous, blonde genie. She, of course, offered him three wishes and the opportunity to be her โmaster.โ Being a gentleman, he refused not only the wishes but to be called โMaster.โ She fell deeply in love with him. Jeannie and her bottle came to live with Tony in Cocoa Beach, Florida. As the tv seasons went on, Tony also fell in love with Jeannie and eventually, they married. The problem along the way was she kept calling him โMaster.โ He always insisted she call him โTony.โ It was a way of life she lived for 1,000s of years. In that time the rules stood โ when someone opened your bottle, they were your master. It took a lot of training to break that habit and eventually call him โhusband.โ
It takes a lot of work to be called a โmasterโ of something.ย ย Journalist and author Malcolm Gladwell wrote about the 10,000-hour rule in his 2008 bestseller,ย “Outliers.”ย The rule is simple: mastery comes after someone practices one skill for 10,000 hours. ย And new studies show even that may not make you great at something.ย ย In some areas you still need talent or clearly defined ways in which you practice.ย ย When you break down the 10,000-hour rule itโs overwhelming.ย ย ย It can take more than 20 years to accomplish this feat for one skill.
God has been at work as Master of our world much longer.ย ย And who knows how long he has been Master of the Universe!ย ย Iโm thinking He has gotten pretty good at being in charge, not only of our lives, but the entirety of our world.ย ย And yet we still buck under His authority.ย ย He doesnโt ask for a โmaster-slaveโ relationship from us.ย ย In fact, in Hosea, God clarifies His role in our lives.ย ย He wants to lead us, speak with us tenderly, shower us with riches.ย ย And when we respond in loving obedience He says:
โIn that day,โ declares theย Lord,
โyou will call me โmy husbandโ;
you will no longer call me โmy master.โโ
Hosea 2:16
I think as Christians we struggle in life between seeing God as our โmasterโ as in โthe bossโ and as our โhusbandโ because we constantly try to pull away and lead our own lives.ย ย The sin that is created from this brings feelings of condemnation and pain.ย ย Instead we should see God as โThe Master of the Universeโ โ the being who has put in way more than 10,000 hours of practice.ย ย Heโs who we can lean on, trust, look for guidance, find hope in, and gain strength from.ย ย And with that, He wants a personal relationship with us — as a loving “husband.”
A lot of feminists bristle at the Christian ideal of family structure.ย ย A husband as the leader of the family brings up hackles.ย ย ย And yet men and women who truly know and understand the Bible realize God created a loving hierarchy in our families based on our God-centered, world hierarchy.ย ย There are no slaves with brutal masters.ย ย There are masters who had responsibilities to slaves throughout the Bible.ย ย There are business people who must treat their workers appropriately, just as God has treated them.ย ย And itโs very clear that both a husband and wife have responsibilities for loving and caring about each other.ย ย
God, the All Knowing Master, is also our betrothed.ย ย I praise Him for being both โ a powerful force that I can rely on and love with all my heart.
I donโt know if youโre like me but when I go into any situation, Iโm always asking, โwhatโs the plan?โย ย Thereโs that Martha popping up in me again!ย ย Iโm an action-oriented, goal-centered, outcome-driven creature.ย ย Thatโs not bad.ย ย Through numerous human resources training sessions Iโve come to realize the different characters in a well-oiled team.ย ย And, as a person comfortable with leading, Iโve needed to see all the beautiful ways people contribute toward accomplishing a goal.ย ย You have the worker bees, idea creators, empathizers, suspicious minds, change resistors, change lovers, and number crunchers.ย ย But there always needs to be a โman with a plan.โย ย Of course, not necessarily a man.ย ย But a person who has a vision โ an overarching goal or purpose to why we all have gathered.ย ย Apple founder Steve Jobs was one such leader.ย ย On leadership he said,
โTechnology is nothing.ย ย Whatโs important is that you have faith in people, that theyโre basically good and smart, and if you give them tools, theyโll do wonderful things with them.โ
Steve Jobs
At the end of Mr. Jobsโ life I donโt know how he felt about God but he was channeling Godโs leadership ideas. God is the Man with the Ultimate Plan. Praise God that He is our fearless leader. In Romans 8:28, the disciple Paul writes: โAnd we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.โ Notice God calls meetings and has a purpose in mind? As believers we are working in concert with Godโs purposes. He pulls together teams to accomplish His visions for His world. So, when we are called into the office, we bring our various talents and characteristics.
Itโs a dangerous mistake for us to look at other Christians working for Godโs purpose and compare ourselves to them.ย ย Yes, we can all learn from each other about how to better trust and obey God.ย ย But being a believer doesnโt erase our basic tendencies or talents or abilities.ย ย At my most recent church I volunteered for the Come Build Hope team.ย ย This program facilitated building an average of 10 houses in Mexico each year.ย ย In the bulletin was posted the need for a registrar.ย ย That was right up my alley.ย ย Iโm very organized, computer savvy, and communicate well with volunteers.ย ย The other two key members of the team were grateful because those arenโt their talents.ย ย One was a building specialist.ย ย One was the vision and money person.ย ย We made a great team.ย ย Mostly because we were also God-centered.ย ย Our big and many small decisions were based on Jesusโ teachings.ย ย He was always on our minds and hearts.ย ย Itโs not that everything went smoothly, itโs that we were able to work out all problems great and small as a team.ย ย ย
Iโve found when I place God as my team leader and look to Him for guidance, comfort, encouragement and peace my life seems to go in a much clearer direction.ย ย Itโs when I try to wrestle back control that it jumps the tracks.ย ย I also know that when circumstances around me start to go awry I can look to Him to take me through the storm.ย ย There are many major companies that have failed to weather financial, political or other storms due to lack of good leadership.ย ย Trials and tests will come to everyone. When I put my faith firmly in the capable hands of God I know He will work all things for my good.
I love this new song by King & Country. I was fortunate to hear this song in concert before it was released. The idea of working together, for His purpose, is so important right now. As Christians we need to band together as God’s team to bring light and hope to our world. Click on the photo to watch the video of Together.
Each morning I take my sweet dog Tucker out for a nice long walk. We typically walk in the canyon near our house. Some days I listen to worship music, some days I listen to podcasts. While other days I make it a point to just listen. Yesterday I decided to walk the first mile in praise and the second in prayers for others. Thanks to this 30 Days of Praise project that mile of praise has gotten easier. I reflected on the last 12 days of posts and began reciting different phrases โ โGod you are my King! God you are omnipotent! God you are ever present in my life! God, you love me even when I am being unlovable. God, you have taught me so much. You are the only one worthy of this praise. You are a flawless shield.โ My love pouring out to Him filled me with such joy and peace like a mirror reflects back the sunlight. It felt bold and it felt oh so right.
I found this short essay on praising God which spurs me on toward my next 12 days.ย ย Encouraging me to praise; pressing me to dig deeper; showing me that praising God is simply what all nature does every minute of the day.ย
โCome you children of God, and bless his dear name; for doesnโt all nature around you sing?ย ย If you were silent, you would be an exception to the universe.ย ย Doesnโt the thunder praise him as it rolls like drums in the march of the God of armies?ย ย Doesnโt the ocean praise him as it claps its thousand hands?ย ย Doesnโt the sea roar, and the fullness thereof?ย ย Do not the mountains praise him when the shaggy woods upon their summits wave in adoration?ย ย Do not the lightnings write his name in letters of fire upon the midnight darkness?ย ย Doesnโt this world, in its unceasing revolutions, perpetually roll forth his praise?ย ย The whole earth has a voice, and shall we be silent?ย ย Shall man, for whom the world was made, and suns and stars were created โ shall he be silent?ย ย No, let him lead the strain.โ

How will you lead the strain in praising God today?ย ย Shout it as loud as the sea roars and as bold as the lightning claps! Join the conversation below!
You never know when you will have the opportunity to share your faith.ย ย God will place people in your lives that He wants you to share your love for Him.ย ย We must always be ready.ย And although you are not responsible for the path they eventually take, God calls us to take even the smallest part in that path. When my youngest was in college she became best friends with a beautiful, smart, funny young lady from Belgium.ย ย They were field hockey teammates, roommates, and now lifelong friends.ย ย We sent my daughterโs car out to her their sophomore year.ย ย It gave them so much freedom to explore the St. Louis area and beyond.ย ย
As my daughter grew closer to Christ through the Christian athlete organization Athletes In Action, she also began discipling other athletes.ย ย But her best friend didnโt seem interested.ย ย However, one of the many things they did have in common was their love of music.ย ย I saw many a video of them driving along singing at the top of their lungs to a popular song while they cruised the streets of St. Charles, Missouri.ย ย Their favorite was โAfricaโ by Toto which had experienced a renewal at that time. And while they played upbeat, fun, pop and country songs my daughter also played songs about her faith.ย ย Beautiful Christian songs.ย ย Songs that spoke of her love for Jesus.
One day her friend hopped in the car and said to her, โPlay some of those good, sad songs.โย ย My daughter was confused.ย ย Her Belgium friend, while fluent in English, had a funny way of using the English language with her French/Dutch accent.ย ย She said, โYou know, those Jesus songs.โย ย And my daughter was ready to serve in Godโs name.

I suppose many Christian songs may sound โsadโ to some but so many of the lyrics speak to our deepest needs.ย ย We express our longing and our hope through these โsad Christian songs.โย ย Most of my favorite songs fall into this category.ย ย Music gives us a beautiful channel to lift up our voices to our Father to say, “I love youโ or โI need you.โย ย We might also say we are hurting or we have been healed.ย ย I have plenty of shout out loud โpraise the Lordโ songs in my โInspirationalโ playlist.ย ย But I frequently play the ones that tug at my heart.ย ย
I have a friend that doesnโt want to go back to her church right now because they have decided not to play music and sing songs.ย ย She has said, โI can listen to a sermon anywhere.ย ย I miss the voices being lifted up to God.ย ย I miss the worship.โย ย
Sometimes we need a good โsadโ Christian song. That beautiful expression of our love for God can bring so much love and peace to live in us. Iโd like to share with you one of those songs. โYouโ by Fellowship Creative, shows the need for God our Father, God our Counselor. It praises God for His ability to mend all brokenness. I hope you enjoy listening to it.
Whatโs your favorite โsad Christian songโ and who can you share it with today?ย ย Letโs praise God with our beautiful (and not so beautifulย ) voices.
How often do you talk with others about your faith and God? I once was in a Bible study where a wonderfully kind woman described talking about Jesus as an uncomfortable used car transaction. You walk onto the lot wanting to browse and the used car salesman starts his schtick trying to get you to buy something you really donโt want.
A few years ago, I had a profound encounter with Jesus which led me on my path toward a bold faith. One of the โside effectsโ of this bold faith is how often I find myself talking about God with all sorts of people. Itโs through these conversations that Iโve seen varied views of God.
Omnipotent God
One very close friend, who happens to be Catholic, pictures God as an altar. Sheโs currently seeking a more personal relationship with Him but for a long time God has been more of an authority figure. What I love about this God is He can move mountains. He can set the world back into order. He performs miracles the world couldnโt even imagine. God the King, the Lord of Lords โ itโs who we press our faces to the ground in submission as we seek His grace and deliverance. Itโs who we offer the only true gift we have, ourselves, as we approach His throne.
Definition of omnipotent
1:often capitalized: ALMIGHTY
2: having virtually unlimited authority or influence
Omnipresent God
I know a number of people who feel Godโs presence constantly. One woman, in her early 80s, told me He is always with her, like a friend. She talks with Him throughout her day. He guides her with gentle touches. He comforts her. My sweet friend Janet, who I tease and call her Earth Mother, is finely tuned into God. Her โGod Antennaeโ picks up His signals through visions, feelings and dreams. He is never far from her because she sees Him all around her โ in nature, in people, in animals and in the every day. The wonderful thing about this God is He never forgets me. I am never lost. He always knows where I am because I am always with Him.
Definition of omnipresent
1: present in all places at all times
Omniscient God
My friend Betsy and my mother-in-law Bev trust God completely. Thatโs because they know God has a plan. They know deep in their hearts that all things do truly work for our good and somehow, someday their prayers will be answered. This omniscient God is above our thoughts. He knows what we truly need, even when we think we know better. This is the God who sent His son to teach us His ways because He knew we needed someone who had a โhuman experienceโ yet was without blemish. Jesus intimately knows manโs ways and Godโs ways. In my current Bible study, there are two separate โlife principlesโ which focus on obeying God. #2 is: Obey God and let Him handle the consequences. #5 is: Obey God even if it seems unreasonable. Why? Because God knows the ultimate outcomes.
Definition of omniscient
1: having infinite awareness, understanding, and insight
2: possessed of universal or complete knowledge
The three Oโs of God โomnipotent, omnipresent, omniscient โ create one unimaginably powerful force. This King, this Friend, this Teacher asks for two simple acts in return for all His gifts to us, to obey His Word and to return His love.
โHe who forms the mountains, who creates the wind, and who reveals his thoughts to mankind, who turns dawn to darkness, and treads on the heights of the earth โ the Lord God Almighty is his name.โ Amos 4:13
