Christ Alone –The Great I Am

Day 8

I heard this song last year at the church I was attending. It was so beautifully done I was in tears. Every time I play this song I feel so connected to God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit. It lifts my heart. I find myself raising my hands in my car or out in public while taking a walk. I’m led to show my bold love for God.

This song speaks to the amazing love the Almighty pours out to us. He is our song when we don’t seem to have our own melody. He is our strength when troubles make us weak. He is forever the same and the only one worthy of complete praise.

During the last year, bold faith and expression of that faith has been my guiding principle. God defines me, not the world. God’s desires for me are my desires. I am imperfectly trying to perfect that bold faith. When I first started attending church I felt like an imposter. I knew for a fact that everyone around me had bold faith. And I did not. I stumbled and dusted myself off, all the while reaching out for His hand. I told Him, “Lord you are my hope when I cannot see the day.”

Even when I found myself as a leader of a Bible Study I felt like an imposter. Again, I just knew everyone in the group must know the Bible inside and out. They were probably experts and would see through my inadequacies. So I prayed, “Lord you are my sight, teach me how to walk by faith.”

God has guided me and provided for me through many trials and many joys. He has rescued me and He has bestowed great gifts. And so now I say, “I just wanna take my time and say, you alone are worthy of my praise.”

Wave Your White Flag

What battles are you facing right now? For me itโ€™s my fears about the direction the country is going. I am a patriot through and through. Iโ€™m not a fan of people who twist history to meet their needs for victimization. That may not sit well with people but I will not judge others for living imperfect lives while I, myself, live imperfectly every single day. That being said I can only live in Godโ€™s Truth which is the fact that the only battle I have some control over is the one that tries to pull me away from God.
.
When I donโ€™t first get on my knees and pray; when I donโ€™t continually look to the Lord for guidance; when I donโ€™t trust that God is the ultimate warrior in the battles for Truth and Justice โ€” this is when I need to remind myself to tighten my own warrior belt and take up my shield.
.
Our real battles are being fought in realms unseen. Our job is to surrender to the knowledge that God will fight for us when we ask. He will beat back the armies that wish to destroy us. And as King Jehoshaphat commanded the people of Judah to act before battle, we need to give thanks to the Lord, for His love endures forever!โ€
.
Itโ€™s time to completely turn your battles over to God. Letโ€™s face it, you havenโ€™t had too many victories without Him. Wave your white flag. Get on your knees and pray.

Persistence

Where do you place the idea of โ€œpersistenceโ€ in your life? In Godโ€™s realm it is one of the most highly touted human characteristics.
.
Persistence gets us to grab hold of the life God wants for us. It molds us into better people. Persistence takes us over the finish line when we continually pray in worship, thanksgiving and petition.
.
Persistence is not about never changing course. Itโ€™s about never taking your eyes off the ultimate goal โ€” even if that means our course zig zags a bit. When I was learning to sail the first thing we needed to understand was reading the wind. Sensing itโ€™s direction and using it for the most power and energy. Frequently that meant having to โ€œtackโ€ or sail in a zig zag. As a sailor you need to be fully in tune with the unseen in order to persist toward that spot on the horizon youโ€™ve picked out as your ultimate goal.
.
I have pleasing God as my ultimate goal. And through prayer, meditation, worship, and paying close attention to His unseen and seen ways I set my sail toward Him. It may mean I zig zag my way but through persistence I know I will reach my goal.

Worship, Work, Witness

Are you an โ€œall work and no playโ€ sort of person. Do you know an โ€œall play and no workโ€ person? I just finished studying John 12:1-8 where these issues arose. Itโ€™s fascinating how much teaching God puts in 8 sentences.
.
My โ€œBible spiritโ€, Martha, is busy making an amazing dinner for Jesus. Mary, her sister, lets her hair down and rubs very expensive perfume on Jesusโ€™ feet. Meanwhile Lazarus, the famed friend whom Jesus lifted from death, sits as a witness to Jesusโ€™ holy position with God.
.
All three play an important role in this scene. And yet the disciples question Maryโ€™s action โ€” โ€œShouldnโ€™t we sell that perfume and give it to the poor?โ€ But Mary, who frequently sat at Jesusโ€™ feet knew what was to happen. She was worshipping Him before His impending death.
.
Jesus makes it clear thereโ€™s a time to worship/celebrate and a time to work. This balance in our daily Christian lives provides us the opportunity for witnessing. How many times have you personally said you donโ€™t have time, even 15 minutes a day, for Bible study? How many times has the opportunity to volunteer at your church come up and you said your calendar is full? How many times have you told a friend or family member you were too busy? How many times have you seen or heard someone in need but you didnโ€™t stop your busy life to help? How many times have you skipped church for something โ€œmore important?โ€
.
Where have you gone out of balance? And are you taking the time to complete this holy lesson with witnessing His love and His power and His grace?
